District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)
The agencies that are created for the development of rural areas in any district are referred to as District Rural Development Agencies (DRDs). These agencies are created under the act of Indian Societies Registration, where the sum of the development funds is transferred through various schemes that are sponsored by the central government. These agencies can be considered as the important agencies that are a part of the rural development in India.
The primary organ at district level is DRDA whose main role is to implement various kinds of anti-poverty programs in rural areas. The expenses of the programs organized by DRDA are met by allocating a particular share for each and every program. Eventually, the number of anti-poverty programs increased, which couldn’t meet the administrative expenses. The uniformity of the expenses was disturbed, as the number of programs increased. To solve this problem, a scheme was introduced on April 1, 1999 and was sponsored by the central government to coordinate and fulfill the requirements of anti-poverty programs. After launching this new scheme, the expenses were met by the providing a separate budget provision for conducting the programs.
